Ipe
(pronounced ee-pay) is an imported exotic hardwood species
which is rapidly becoming the preeminent natural decking
product for residential and commercial applications. |
Central carries an exterior grade, naturally
durable hardwood, which has proven its strength (two to three
times as hard as oak) in some of the most difficult applications
imaginable. From the high traffic boardwalks in Atlantic
City and Coney Island to the thousands of heavily used benches
in New York's Central Park, Ipe is able to withstand the ravages
of wear, rot, termites attacks, marine borers, fire, and vandalism.
More importantly, Ipe is one of a handful of hardwoods that has
a natural Class A fire rating. This species is virtually maintenance
free and can last up to 30 years without replacement.
Naturally durable hardwoods such as Ipe are
perfect for such uses as boardwalks, bridges, piers, and docks,
noise abatement walls, sea walls, marine construction, architectural
components, ship building for rails and decks, dowel and glue
laminated timbers, and other fabrications.
