MDF is an engineered panel
known for its smooth and uniform routable core. MDF consists
of wood fibers and a resin combination that is formed into
a homogenous sheet, hot pressed, sanded, and finally cut
to size. Central Hardwoods distributes MDF panels manufactured
by the top-quality producers in the industry.
Our Plum Creek MDF is a double refined
board which is a premium MDF panel that is constructed
of smaller particles of wood fibre compressed to a more
uniform density than other panels. Also, the MDF is made
from prime western inland softwoods such as Ponderosa Pine,
Spruce, Larch, and Douglas Fir. These species grow more
slowly than Southern softwoods resulting in less mineral
contamination and less silica. Hence, MDF is easier to
cut and shape, while edges remain homogenous, clean, and
smooth. Because it's easier to cut, tools stay sharper
since there is less of a dulling effect. Because it's so
smooth, it's easier to paint and provides for better laminate
adhesion. These characteristics of MDF all lead to lower
costs over the long term. Central has also taken on yet
another specialty derivative of the Plum Creek MDF family:
Super-Refined MDF Lite. The lite board has a density of
35 pounds/ft., +- 3 pounds. Some of the characteristics
are a lighter color and weight, because of a density lower
than normal MDF board. As a result, using Plum Creek Lite
leads to longer tool life, higher machine speeds, and easier
handling. This affords the same high quality at a lighter
weight and lower cost. We can provide you with further
information on technical specifications as well as additional
information on how to machine, fasten, and finish MDF products.
